Langdale Pikes
February 2015
Lake District, winter walking for 2 days with my friend and colleague Graeme Tiffany.
Sunday 1st February - camped at Great Langdale (National Trust) campsite, got down to -4C. Walked up onto Langdale Pikes. Superb sunny day, bitingly cold with windchill of -15C on the tops, with brisk winds.
Route: ODG, Mark Gate, Loft Crag, Harrison Stickle, Pavey Ark, Stickle Tarn and New Dungeon Ghyll.
Lots of ice and wind-blown snow, with deep drifts on south and east facing slopes (strong northerly winds). Descent off Pavey Ark down North Gully - full of snow, ice and rocks - was bit part of the day.
