Yorkshire Dales Walking Weekender
Grinton, Swaledale
11th - 13th July 2014

The sun certainly shone for our Yorkshire Dales Walking Weekender, based at Grinton in beautiful Swaledale.

We started the weekend with a Friday night pub get-together at the Bridge Inn. On Saturday we headed off for a full day's walk to Marrick Priory, up onto Fremington Edge and then down through Arkengarthdale in humid heat.

Saturday night was our pub quiz night at the Bridge Inn, then on Sunday we headed up the 'Cote de Grinton Moor' to see the old lead mines, then across Harkerside Hill to the Iron Age hill-fort of Maiden Castle. We saw heron, grouse, lapwing, curlew, meadow pipit, ringed ouzel and a toad.

Fantastic group of people and lots of interesting conversations and even a bit of philosophy!
