Contours Navigation Course

Contours Navigation Course
Kilnsey, Yorkshire Dales
March 2019

A day spent getting to grips with contours as the prime method of navigation. The moors and fells above Kilnsey in the Yorkshire Dales are perfect, with complex contour features, sink holes (represented by ring contours) and dry valleys. The highlight was Dowkabottom Cove, a deep cave where prehistoric burials have been found

Winter Backpacking in the Lake District

Winter Backpacking Weekend
Coniston to Great Langdale, Lake District
30th Nov / 1st Dec 2019

A wonderful weekend of frosty mornings, clear blue skies, wonderful sunsets and -4 degrees C in a tent! we walked from Coniston to Great Langdale via Hole Rake, Tilberthwaite, Cathedral Quarry, Little Langdale and Blea Tarn, and then spent the evening at the fantastic Sticklebarn Tavern (who have CO2 amounts for each item on their menu). On Sunday, after a very frosty start, we headed back via Great Langdale, Colwith Force and Tarn Hows.

Winter Wild Camping Weekend

Winter Wild Camping Weekend
Kentmere, Lake District
November 2019

A wild, wet and cold weekend in the Far Eastern Fells, with a wonderful group of people. We headed to a remote bothy for the long, dark evening round a lovely warm fireside, where we ate pouch-meals by head-torch and played cards by the stove.
